Movies in the Park Kicks Off with ‘The Mighty Ducks’
Hundreds Enjoy Outdoor Movie in Leif Erikson Park

Friday night was the first of the 8–week Duluth tradition down in Leif Erikson Park.
Hundreds came out Friday night with blankets and chairs, and kids ran around in their pajamas.
The big screen is 20×40 feet, surrounded by huge speakers, so seeing and hearing was not a problem.
Friday’s movie was a Northland favorite, ‘The Mighty Ducks!’
A few years back they actually began theming the summer movies.
This year, it’s an all–star summer, so all eight movies will be sports–themed and fun for the whole family.
While there are food vendors down in Leif Erikson park, people can bring their own picnic dinners, and whatever else they’d like, to capitalize on beautiful Duluth summer nights.
“And doesn’t that just totally fit Duluth’s culture? We are an outdoor city, we have so many parks and so much green space and it’s wonderful for us to be able to take advantage of that and come on out and enjoy,” said Darlene Marshall, Event Coordinator at the Greater Downtown Council.
The movies will start at sundown every Friday night for eight weeks through August 28, which will be about 10 minutes earlier each week as the days get shorter.
Here is the lineup for the rest of the summer:
July 17 – Bend It Like Beckham
July 24 – A League of Their Own
July 31 – Cars
August 7 – Miracle
August 14 – Field of Dreams
August 21 – Happy Gilmore
August 28 – Planes
