Suicidal Man Dies in Confrontation with Burnsville Police
Officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting
A man who authorities say was threatening suicide is dead after a confrontation with police in Burnsville.
Police say the man left an apartment complex with a gun around 8:25 p.m. Monday. The Star Tribune reports a search on foot and with a State Patrol helicopter detected someone about an hour later in a tree line near the apartment complex.
A police statement said officers approaching on foot saw the man had a fire arm, and “a Burnsville officer fired shots and the individual is deceased.” No officers were hurt.
Officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.
The shooting is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. A BCA spokeswoman declined to say whether the officers killed the man or if he killed himself. One officers was placed on leave.
