Milwaukee Police Chief Will Not Release Video of Shooting
Once the DOJ determines charges materials will be released
Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said he won’t go against the advice of the state’s attorney general and local district attorney to release the video of a fatal police shooting that sparked riots.
Flynn spoke to reporters Thursday at a Milwaukee Press Club event.
The State Department of Justice has finished its investigation into the August 13 shooting of Sylville Smith and has forwarded the findings to Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm for a charging decision.
Schimel has said the DOJ won’t release anything until Chisholm decides on charges or determines the material can be released.
Two nights of violence erupted on Milwaukee’s north side after a black officer fatally shot Smith, who was black, during a foot chase. Police have said Smith had a gun in his hand.
