Bernie Sanders to Visit Duluth

Sanders will be at UMD's Kirby Ballroom on October 4th.

Bernie Sanders is making his way back to the Northland on October 4th. The 2016 presidential contender and Minnesota caucus winner will be in town to rally support for Hillary Clinton.

Sanders will be at UMD’s Kirby Ballroom from 7-9 p.m.

It’s expected he will talk about Clinton’s economic policy while showing support for other Democratic candidates on the ticket.

Congressman Rick Nolan is also expected to be at the event. Even with the short notice, UMD is ready for Sanders’ appearance.

“We have students on campus that are very passionate about the elections and about politics and voting and getting the word out to vote, so it’s fun especially when the students are the most excited about it,” said Gina Pudlick, Kirby Student Center Operations Manager.

Sanders also has plans to visit Minneapolis the same day.

This is Sanders third visit to the Northland this year. He made previous stops in Duluth and in Hibbing.

His last appearance in Duluth brought nearly 6000 people to the DECC.

UMD said they’re drawing on previous experience when former President Bill Clinton visited campus in 2012 when campaigning for President Obama.
