Walk for Wishes Raises Money for Area Branch of Make A Wish
Event hopes to raise nearly $13,000 which will give two kids their wish.
Many in the Northland are getting their walking shoes on to help area kids get their wish.
The Walk for Wishes raises money for the northern Minnesota branch of the Make A Wish Foundation.
The walk is in its second year and will be at Bagley Park.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the run starting at 10 a.m. and the walk at 11 a.m.
“It’s really a wholesome, very honest campaign to help kids give them a wish, give them something to liven them up, help them get through the trials and tribulations they have to go through with their illnesses,” said Amber Peterson, Make A Wish volunteer.
It takes nearly $6,500 to give a kid their wish.
One of those kids is Zach Strom who will leave for his wish to New Zealand in a few weeks.
Strom is a junior from Cloquet and an avid fan of the Lord of the Rings series. While he is in New Zealand, he will tour many of the sites that were in the movies.
Strom has a rare form of cancer that has formed nearly 30 tumors in his left arm.
“I haven’t had too much relaxation the last couple of years. It’s been a bit dreary the last two. My meds have balanced out and I don’t have pain constantly anymore,” said Strom.
