Students Painting Community Mural at Denfeld High School

Mural Will Be Created for the American Indian Education Department

DULUTH, Minn. – Students are working together to create a mural for the American Indian Education Department at Denfeld High School.

Students will be painting a local chief from the Fond Du Lac area in an effort to raise cultural awareness and provide an after school program for Native students in Duluth.

“I don’t want people to take it as something purely for native people, I don’t want people to take it purely for native students,” said Zakaris Howes, a Denfeld student working on the mural. “I want people from all over, whoever you are, to be able to contribute.”

Any student, parent, or mentor is welcome to work on the project.

They will be painting Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Denfeld High School.

Students hope to unveil the mural on November 1st.
