17 Yr. Old Arrested for Impersonating Officer

HERMANTOWN - A 17 year old Hermantown youth is under investigation for allegedly attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a motorist in the 3700 block of Johnson Road in the late evening hours of Friday January 4th. Police were contacted by a juvenile female motorist on January 7th to report the incident, after learning of a similar incident which had occurred near Biwabik recently.
The motorist told police that while she was turning onto the Johnson Road from Morris Thomas Road, a tan SUV was following her.
As she began to signal a turn into a driveway, the vehicle behind her activated red and blue flashing lights.
The reporting party said she slowed down as she turned into the driveway, at which time the tan SUV continued past her and drove further up the Johnson Road and out of sight.
Further investigation of the incident led police to suspect a Hermantown High School student with a similar type vehicle.
Police were able to positively identify the driver, obtain an admission about the incident from him and confiscate red and blue emergency lights and a siren that were mounted in the subjects tan SUV.
The Hermantown Police Department will be requesting charges from the prosecuting authority in connection with this incident of Illegal use of Lights, Illegal use of a Siren and Impersonating an Officer.
Hermantown Police are aware of the incident in Biwabik and have been working with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department.
This incident remains under investigation.
