DULUTH - A couple of Duluth Elementary students got the ride of a lifetime to school Wednesday morning.
The Duluth Fire Department picked up a kindergartener at Congdon School and a third grader from Piedmont School to ride to class in a fire truck.
The students were chosen for the ride because they made and practiced a fire escape plan with their families.
School officials say it provides a valuable lesson.
"The hope is that they learn fire safety and we also talk about it in school and some of the fire people come to the school and work with the children so they understand what to do in case there's a fire in the house," said Piedmont Principal Cher Obst.
The event happens as a part of Fire Pevention Safety Week.
