DULUTH - It was the first set of what could be more than 200 new jobs in the area.
AAR Aircraft Services held a job fair to find the best local candidates for their new aircraft maintenance facility.
On Wednesday, AAR employees met with several applicants at the DECC in an attempt to find 60 to 75 people, from managers to mechanics, to be trained and ready to work by early winter.
AAR signed the agreement to open up shop in the old Northwest Airlines Maintenance Base back in April.
On Wednesday, they took steps to find their launch team.
Local applicants had the chance to formally apply and talk with current AAR employees about why they would be a good fit with the company.
"So actual fingerprints; people are taking a look at the skills that are on those resumes, then from there those individuals will be called on interviewed based on their skill sets," AAR Director of Recruiting Greg Dellinger said.
Those hired as part of the launch team are expected to begin work as soon as AAR finds their first customer company to repair jets for.
The facility has the space to hold four lines of customers, and as those roll in, more jobs will, too.
The actual hiring should be completed in about two to three weeks.
After that, they will train for their new jobs for about 45 to 60 days.
Job postings are still open for applications online.
