Community members helped plant UMD's new apple orchard Saturday morning.
The college's Sustainable Agriculture program won the orchard through an Edy's Fruit Bars and Fruit Tree Planting contest called "Communities Take Root".
"we're really here because the community came together to vote for the community to receive this orchard and it provides an ongoing source of fresh fruit for generations,"said Edy's Fruit Bars representative Julie Lyons.
Duluth's is the 45th orchard planted as part of the contest, and the first one they've done in Minnesota.
