SUPERIOR - A controversial magazine cover about to hit the shelves next week has people turning heads.
The magazine in question is Time Magazine. It shows a mother breast–feeding. But the age of the child is what has people talking.
The cover photo shows a 26–year old mother breast–feeding her 3–year old son, who's shown standing on a chair. While the magazine doesn't come out until next week the cover article revolves around a method called "attachment parenting." It includes extended breast–feeding, co–sleeping and baby wearing, where infants are attached to their parents by slings. Mothers we spoke with were shocked by the photo and say this could cause serious problems for a child.
"I work in a maternity store and I haven't had many people come in and say they're still breast–feeding their child. I've heard age 2 before and that's been kind of common but I haven't heard past 2-years," said Angeline Moore, who has a 3-year old of her own and one on the way.
Another mother said, "If they're dependent on that and their school aged kids they're going to run into some social issues with maybe making friends and getting teased or just simple things that can really affect a child."
Four mothers from across the country were photographed in the magazine and the release date is scheduled for its May 21st issue.
