WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tuesday the U.S. House unanimously approved legislation sponsored by Congressman Chip Cravaack allowing Cook County to move forward with a project that's been in development for years.
The bill would require the Secretary of Agriculture to release Minnesota from the conditions imposed on it relative to a parcel of land in Cook County intended for the Grand Marais–Cook County Airport.
The airport never used the land, but the federal restrictions remained, which prevented the land from being used for other projects.
The bill is now heading to the Senate, and if it becomes law then the Cook County Highway Department can purchase the land for reconstruction of County Highway Eight.
