The Local Courthouse Safety Act, which was introduced by Sen. Al Franken after the courthouse shooting in Grand Marais, passed with strong bipartisan support Thursday by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The bill now heads to the full senate for debate.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar is a co–sponsor of the bill, which would give local courthouses access to security training, grant money for improving security and access to excess federal security equipment like metal detectors and screen devices.
