WUORI TOWNSHIP-A driver who swerved through the Iron Range and slamming into a state trooper was arrested in Virginia Saturday night. Witnesses say he rode on three blown-out tires nearly all the way to the city after escaping authorities through gunfire.
Now, a walk on the driveway for young Noah Toole is a walk on a crime scene."The truck came through the ditch right there and then he rode through here and smashed down our mailbox and then he went right through there and drove right back up on the highway,” Noah said, gesturing in his parents’ front lawn.“And he went down and turned into our next door neighbor's driveway. And then he through a hundred bucks out the window for help,” Noah said. Instead State Troopers arrived soon after the 7:35 p.m. crash causing a commotion in the Britt area "It was pretty scary because the guy was swerving all over the place with flat tires,” Noah’s mother Shannen Toole said. "He rammed his state trooper car about 150 feet out back into the woods in the trail there,” Noah said.“He must know this place because he knows where the trail is. And once he did that the state trooper started shooting out of his car,” Noah said. The allegedly intoxicated driver made it, on one full tire, all the way to Virginia from Wuori Township using Highway 53.Virginia Police confirm the PIT maneuver was used to end the chase that started at the end of the Toole family’s driveway. "As a matter of fact we had stopped right at the mailbox to get our mail and luckily we had pulled into the drive,” Shannen said. The Minnesota State Patrol has not yet released its report of the chase. The drivers' name, also, has not yet been given although Virginia Police say they have dealt with him before.
