DULUTH - Duluth's weather radar is getting a big facelift to better track severe weather. It's called dual–polarization.
Crews will start installing the new technology Wednesday.
It'll give meteorologists a more accurate depiction of what's actually going on inside a severe storm which in turn will help clarify exactly what a severe storm is producing.
"It's not going to give us all of the answer, but it's certainly going to be a market improvement at telling us ya know, even what storms might some small hair mixed in with the rain versus a heavy shower," said Dan Miller with Duluth's National Weather Service.
The new radar will also help determine how destructive a tornado is actually behaving within a storm cell helping meteorologists justify safety during certain tornado warnings.
