CARLTON - With the cold months approaching, officials said applying for flood assistance is increasingly important.
The deadline to apply for SBA loans, which is the first step in getting forgivable loans from the state, is Monday, Oct. 15.
Officials want friends and family to remind those with damage that it is important to apply because millions of dollars are still untouched.
They said that because about 200 homes were still lacking furnaces, it is also becoming a safety concern.
"They're either going to be very, very cold in unlivable conditions in their home or they're going to try to supplement heat somehow with space heaters," Carlton Co. Sheriff Kelly Lake said.
Organizers said they were aiming for about 120 more homes to apply by Monday so that an approximate $3 million more in assistance would be distributed.
