BAYFIELD - A former Bayfield Police Officer, and fishing guide has died after falling through the ice Saturday. Shortly after one p.m. the Ashland County Sheriff's Department got a call reporting a person was in the water between Bayfield and Long Island.
The caller said the person was riding a snowmobile and broke through the ice in the channel.
A half an hour later rescuers got 35 year old Jim Hudson out of the water.
He was then taken to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland and then flown to Essentia Health's St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth where life saving efforts failed.
The incident is under investigation by the Ashland County Sheriff's Department and WI DNR.
