WASCOTT, Wis. - Criminal charges were now filed Wednesday against a former Wascott official who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the town.

Valda Bremanis, 65, is accused of stashing $72,000 between 2001 and 2008.
Bremanis was Wascott Town treasurer during the alleged crime.
The charges include excess use of authority, falsifying account records, and theft, which are all felonies and include fines up to $10,000 and/or up to 10 years in prison.
