ST. PAUL - Democratic leaders in Minnesota are asking for a vote Thursday on the Vikings stadium bill just one day after Republican legislative leaders proposed a new approach to financing a new stadium.
There are not many clear details on the GOP proposal yet, but it involves a roofless stadium with a smaller state contribution.
That contribution would be backed with general state bonds instead of the gambling expansion expected in the original proposal.
Governor Mark Dayton is calling the proposal a hare–brained scheme and disaster.
"Well yesterday was probably the most cynical attempt at political gamesmanship that I've ever seen in my 35 years around here. Legislative leaders are suppose to be doing that, providing leadership, not gamesmanship," said Dayton.
A House Republican spokeswoman says more details on the proposal are forthcoming.
