Press Release
HERMANTOWN - Hermantown Police were dispatched to a suspicious activity call in the 5200 block of Lavaque Junction Road shortly after noon on Thursday. A home owner contacted 911 to report that a male had just entered his residence by using a key that the suspect had located and taken from inside his garage.
The home owner asked the man to leave at which point he did.
While speaking with 911, the home owner kept an eye on the male subject and watched as he backed his car out of the home owner's garage and closed the door behind him.
The subject then drove across the street to a neighbor's residence and began checking doors there.
Within minutes, Hermantown Police arrived on scene and took the man into custody without incident.
The suspect was brazen enough to park his car in the home owner's garage prior to burglarizing his home.
The suspect did not manage to get away with anything other than the key to the residence which was later found by police in his vehicle.
Police ask that you be cognizant of where you stash extra keys to your home and that home owners lock the doors to both their homes and garages.
Police believe the suspect did not gain entrance to the second residence he visited due to the fact that the garage and residence doors were locked.
The individual arrested has been identified as 30 year old John Henry Greene of Duluth.
This individual is a suspect in other area burglaries and suspicious activity in the recent past.
Greene was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail and a request for charging has been made for the following crimes:
1st Degree Burglary-Felony
3rd Degree Burglary-Felony
5th Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance-Felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-Misdemeanor
Hermantown Police were assisted at the scene by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department.
