Press Release
HIBBING - Hibbing Police, the Minnesota State Patrol and St. Louis County Sheriff's Office teamed up for a special campaign Wednesday. The agencies conducted a special seat belt enforcement campaign on the streets surrounding Hibbing High School, the Assumption Catholic School, Lincoln and Washington Schools.
This saturation is in response to lower than average seat belt usage around the schools.
In the future, other special enforcement saturations will be conducted on a monthly basis.
Officer's from the differing law enforcement agencies will be in the area from approximately 7–8 am and 2–3 pm.
In the month of October, three separate seat belt surveys were taken near the high school.
These surveys indicated that seat belt usage was only 83%.
This is far below the state average of 96.3%
The object of these special enforcement saturations around the schools is to educate students, parents, and the public about traffic laws, which will ultimately create safer streets for all.
