The Hibbing City Council has given the green light for one of the biggest development projects Hibbing has seen in decades.
City officials told FOX 21 Thursday that an $11-million hotel will be built on the 4100-block of 9th Avenue West, which is on the city's far western edge and where the old Ogles Grocery Store has sat vacant for years.
The developers are from well–known Island Investments. The company is handling the roughly $10.5-million of the project.
The rest of the money is coming from state grants and a $500,000 in TIFF.
City officials said 100 construction jobs are expected out of the project, with 40 permanent jobs.
City Clerk Patrick Garrity says there are more phases of the project to follow that involve discussions of a restaurant and even a convention center.
