SUPERIOR-On Sunday, Lake Superior Day, hundreds of Wisconsinites gathered on Barker's Island.
The Lake Superior National Estuary Research Reserve helped to put the event. Organizers said the goal was to remind community members that they are stewards of the environment by drawing them in with fun while giving people a little education.
"We have some storm water information for 'Slow the Flow' and some native plants. We've done a design workshop for the rain gardens. And we're talking about aquatic invasive species and a few other little things," coordinator Jeanne Jewell said.
The Binational Lake Forum started Lake Superior Day in the early 1990s.
