DULUTH-Lake Superior drug task force arrested fifteen heroin dealers, and nine others, as part of "Operation Brownstone".The Duluth Police Department reported most of the dealers were "stand alone" targets without major connections that were identified in the city during a six month investigation.
Authorities say none of the suspects resisted during their arrests.The Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force reports after its crackdown of illegal prescription drug use is when they noticed more heroin usage along with property crimes. "That’s because of the opiate addictions,” Lt. Steve Stracek with the Duluth Police Department said. “They're stealing to feed their habits so we're trying to at least cut off some sources here and then we'll have some plans, perhaps, that might be able to help folks with their addictions."Most suspects will be charged with “3rd Degree Sale of controlled substance” by Friday.
