DULUTH - The Duluth Chamber of Commerce met with local business owners Thursday to talk about new sign code regulations.
Local business owners were eager to learn how the new rules would impact them.
Some proposals include reducing the size of some signage in certain commercial zones and lowering the placement of others.
City officials said current signs are okay as is, and the new ordinance would only affect signs changed or put up after the change in regulation.
"Some of the reasons for the changes are that we wanted to bring out sign code up to date with the technology that's out there. Our 1978 sign code didn't know about electronic reader boards and messenger boards," said Keith Hamre, the City's Director of Planning & Construction Services.
The new sign ordinance will be presented to the Duluth City Council in the next couple of weeks and should go into effect in early April.
