DULUTH - A special 5K walk is scheduled Saturday in Duluth to help honor breast cancer survivors and raise money. Maurices and the American Cancer Society are teaming up for the big event known as Making Strides against Breast Cancer.
Hundreds of Northlanders put on their walking shoes every year outside the campus of Lake Superior College to not only celebrate survivors, but provide hope for those battling breast cancer -- all while raising awareness for prevention.
"Our customer is about 18 to 34 in the demographic and that's really a great age to be able to talk to those women [and] let them know to make sure to eat healthy, exercise -- and that can really make an impact on their health in the future," said Monica Hendrickson, marketing manager at Maurices.
Also to help with the cause, Maurices has launched the "Shop Pink Give Hope" clothing line.
50 percent of every purchase will go toward the American Cancer Society.
To kick of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there will be a lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. around the Aerial Lift Bridge, which will be lit pink.
