DULUTH - One of the Saint Louis River's superfund sites Is on its way to the final stages of clean–up efforts.
Officials with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency met with Morgan Park neighbors Tuesday night About what's been done so far and what's ahead for the
site that's in their backyards.
The MPCA says many identified contaminated portion have been
cleaned up, but other portions are being investigated or cleaned up.
"Super fund sites are often cleaned up in phases
and we're trying to make a stride toward the final clean up phase," said Susan Johnson with the MPCA.
US Steel produced coke, iron and steel in Duluth from 1916
Hazardous wastes and by–products from the steel–making were dumped in nearby waterways.
