SUPERIOR - A $1.7 million investment has been made in Superior to make way for affordable housing.Duffy Development is investing in a new complex geared toward low-income residents.
"It's just totally different than what most of the housing stock in Superior is," said Duffy Development Company President John Duffy.
"It's going to allow more families to have safe, decent affordable apartments to live in," Superior Housing Authority Specialist Terri Miles said.
The Rosewood Apartments will be a total of 11 barrier free, one, two and three bedroom single level units.
"We can get some more people housed in apartments that will work for them on a daily basis," said Miles.
The ranch-style apartments are located on North 7th Street.
They will have large kitchens and bedrooms, washer and dryer hook ups, attached garages with modern amenities.
"They're going to be lovely," said Miles.
Officials say the project comes at a time where affordable housing in the area is in great need.
"A lot of people can't own a home or don't want to own a home for just a lot of factors long term commitments and such," said Miles.
Tenants will have to meet certain income guidelines to live there.
"It doesn't have to be from employment but there does need to be income in order to afford the rent," said Miles.
Anyone who would like to move in can contact the Superior Housing Authority at 715-394-6601.
The new complex is expected to be finished late November 2012.
