DULUTH - Parts of the Northland seeing a recent increase in the number of cases of whooping cough.Ashland County reported 12 cases in early February.

The South Shore School District also had about 25 to 30 percent of its student body out around the same time due to the illness.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 670 cases as of this month, and the Wisconsin Department of Health confirmed 1,500 probable cases so far this year.
