DULUTH - Thursday's pre-trial for a Duluth police officer charged for beating up a man in a detox facility has been postponed until Feb. 21 with the regular sitting judge handling the case.
In September, Officer Richard Jouppi and his partner were transporting a 50-year-old, intoxicated man to a detox center.
Security camera footage showed Jouppi hitting Anthony Jackson several times.
Members of the Native American community said they want to see justice served appropriately.
"We're not going to take that no more. We're tired of it. You take a look at the statistics, at the incarceration rates of individuals of color. Very great disparity," Skip Sandman, a tribal elder, said.
Jouppi was charged with fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct and the Duluth Police Department said he's still on un-paid administrative leave.
