Press Release
SUPERIOR - Impersonating an Officer incident from January 14th, 2013 determined to be unfounded.
On January 14th, 2013 the Superior Police Department received a report of an Impersonating an Officer incident.
In that incident the reporting party claimed to have been subjected to a traffic stop by a male claiming to be a member of the Superior Police Department.
The reporting party said they were allowed to leave after providing vehicle registration and proof of insurance.
It was quickly determined that no official law enforcement agency was responsible for this alleged traffic stop so the incident was initially classified as an Impersonating an Officer event and an investigation was opened.
That investigation led to the recovery of video surveillance footage that refutes the original report to the police and clearly indicates that no such traffic stop ever occurred.
Providing false information to the Police can be a crime in the State of Wisconsin and this matter has been referred to the District Attorney's Office for consideration of charges.
