UMD Names Finalists in Basketball Coaching Search

DULUTH - The University of Minnesota Duluth has named two finalists in its search for a new men's basketball coach.
The finalists, Matt Bowen, head basketball coach at Bemidji State University, and Jeff Rutter, Director of Basketball Operations at Iowa State University, will be on campus this week to interview with UMD Athletic Director Bob Nielson and other school adminsitrators.
Bowen, the 2012 NSIC Coach of the Year, guided Bemidji State to a school record 22 wins, the regular season NISC title and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second time in program history. He's also had stints at Valparaiso and the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Rutter's previous head coaching experience came at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 1996-2003. He's been a member of the Iowa State staff for seven years, the last two in his current position. Rutter has also served as an assistant coach at the Northern Iowa, Stetson, and North Dakota State.
