SUPERIOR - With flood waters drying up and weeks of clean up, UW-Superior is getting ready for a new school year and welcoming its freshmen class.

Just two months ago, every building on UW-Superior's campus was touched by flood waters.

"It was definitely overwhelming to see the flood water in the buildings," UWS Director of Marketing and Communications Lynne Williams said. "To see the damage that was done to some of the individual items."

More than $20 million later, the campus, contractors and the community have completely refurbished the areas of devastation.

"People pulled together really quickly and it's amazing to see what happens when you have passionate people," said Williams.

The cleanup and repairs wrapped up just in time to welcome nearly 400 new freshmen.

"Excited I guess, nervous," said UWS Freshman Alexis Archambeau.

"I'm excited and pumped," said UWS Freshman Coltan Chilson. "It's been a really good time so far."

It has been a week of welcome for them.

They have been getting acquainted with campus and are entering into the community.

"Helping them find their place here on campus because it's so important for their success," UWS Director of First Year Experience Jen Bird said.

"Meeting new people and making new friendships and just having a good time," said Chilson.

The students lined up for the induction ceremony which marks their formal entrance into the campus.

During the induction ceremony, freshmen learned about the university's history, traditions and heard words of encouragement from faculty.

"We're gonna invite you to learn and we're gonna invite you to teach," said a UWS faculty member.

The university is still replacing print and electronic books in the library.

Classes start Sept. 4.
