WRENSHALL-The superintendent of Wrenshall schools will keep his job after a splilt board vote during a special Thursday meeting. Rick Herman was placed on administrative leave one week ago. He will return to work on Friday.
The superintendent faced the review after a disagreement. The chairman of the school board, Troy Powers, confirms it was a conflict with another district employee.
Anecdotally, some parents who wish to not be named say the disagreement was something that should have happened behind closed doors.
Board members went into discussion for more than three hours. That involved direct conversation with Superintendent Herman.
When the meeting reopened, board member Shane Kuhlmey made a motion to remove Herman from the Superintendent position. The motion was defeated in a 3-3 vote. A majority is required to make a decision.
A second motion was made to hire an independent consultant to advise the board on operations of the administration. That passed unanimously.
Powers says the board will start looking taking applications and looking for a specialist as soon as possible.
Rick Herman has held the position for four years.
