DULUTH - A historic ship with ties to Duluth is one step closer to finding a new home.
The St. Louis County Historical Society hosted a fundraiser at The Depot Tuesday night for the restoration and relocation of the Viking ship in Leif Erikson Park.
The goal is to raise enough money to build a shelter over it to properly display the historical ship.
"The ship was sailed here by a crew of four. At that point in time of 1926 and 1927 nobody had ever crossed the Atlantic Ocean in that small of a boat, so historically it's quite a historical feat," Neill Atkins, chair of the Leaf Erikson Restoration Project.
The restoration group hopes to move the ship later this winter or in early spring.
