DULUTH - Staff at the Lake Superior Zoo and the animals joined in on a heart healthy challenge Friday.
The "Go Red for Women" day got underway across the nation and at the local zoo.
Brown bears Phoebe and Trouble had special heart–themed snacks and zookeepers wore pedometers all day to highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
The zoo has several female staff members, so they said it made sense to participate.
"It's been an exciting time and it's an easy thing to promote with our animals," lead zookeeper Maicie Sykes said. "We want our animals to be heart healthy, too."
In support of all the miles keepers put on Friday, the zoo's directors pledged to make a donation to the American Heart Association.
