DULUTH, Minn. -

Nationally more than 200 Feeding America Food Banks, including local affiliate Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, will be joining forces to raise awareness, food and funds during September's Hunger Action Month.

Thursday, September 8, 2016 is known as Hunger Action Day. To recognize the importance, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is requesting Northland residents to wear orange and pledge to take action against hunger during the month of September.

Shaye Moris, Executive Director  for Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank said 1 in 8 Northland residents currently struggle with food insecurity, a statistic that is higher in most counties served by Second Harvest.

Second Harvest is providing opportunities for community members to get involved in Hunger Action Month, on a local level:

Wear Orange for Hunger - Thursday, September 8,2016

Behind the Scenes Tour - Wednesday, September 14, 2016 (Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, 4503 Airpark Boulevard, Duluth). This will run from 12:00p.m. until 1:00p.m.

Share Advantage Credit Union Hunger Action Month Fundraiser - Thursday, September 22 - Friday, September 23, 2016 (Share Advantage Credit Union, 2502 Maple Grove Road, Duluth). The event runs from 8:30a.m. - 5:00p.m at this location, and from 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. at 407 East Third Street, Duluth.

Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is the region's only food bank and rescuer of nationally and regionally donated food for 180 non-profit programs and approximately 44,000 people in need throughout Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin.
