DULUTH - Thursday, 13 Twin Ports businesses celebrated taking big steps towards sustainability.  They call it the "Early Adopter" project of Sustainable Twin Ports.  Participants gathered at the Greysolon Ballroom to discuss what they've done and what they plan to do to incorporate environmentally friendly approaches to doing business.

Tracy Meisterheim, coordinator of the project, describes some steps the businesses have taken:  "Reduced their energy use enormously, they've reduced their waste by 50 percent or more, increased their recycling."

The businesses have been at it for a year.  One business, Twin Ports Testing of Superior, is ready to use a biomass burner and generator, which could possibly take them off the energy grid entirely.
