SUPERIOR - A Northland reconstruction project that's been nearly 10 years in the making finally broke ground Wednesday.North Tower Avenue shut down so crews could begin digging up the 100-year-old street.
Workers will be re–structuring from Belknap to 3rd Street -- replacing storm sewers, creating new driving surfaces and improving parking.
A couple of side streets will remain open, as well as parking behind businesses and side streets.
"We're all very excited this is a project that's going to dramatically change North Tower Avenue,” Superior Business Improvement Development Executive Director Kay Tenerelli said. “The appearance of it, the safety of it, the ability for pedestrians to travel and we hope increase economic development on the street."
Construction is expected to go from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Officials say they may have to hold off in the next couple of days due to the snowstorm.
