PROCTOR - Parents in the Proctor School District may have a new kindergarten option for their children as early as next school year.
The district currently offers two sections of all–day, every-day kindergarten. But families must pay a fee of roughly $2,500 to do so part time. "Every other day kindergarten" is the district's no–cost option.
The district says research shows all–day every–day kindergarten improves learning.
"We want to reduce the achievement gap and offer it to all students every day so that they have the best opportunity for their learning as well," said Diane Morin, principal at Bayview Elementary School in Proctor.
Proctor regularly loses students to Duluth, which already offers all–day, every–day kindergarten.
