DULUTH - Doctors have performed amputations on the University of Minnesota-Duluth student who nearly froze to death.
Doctors amputated the tips of Alyssa Lommel's toes on one foot and all of her toes on her other foot.
Her mother said on her CaringBridge site that Lommel should still be able to walk with shoe inserts.
Doctors are now concerned with her heels and said they are more damaged than they thought.
On one of her heels, doctors had to remove skin and tissue all the way down to the tendon and used artificial skin to cover it up.
Doctors said they will do skin grafts with Lommel's own skin over the artificial skin in about two weeks.
They also plan to do surgery on her fingers at that time.
