DULUTH - Several downtown business owners got a surprise visit Wednesday morning.
Duluth Police Chief Cordon Ramsay and Chamber of Commerce President David Ross made the rounds to several businesses around the Last Place on Earth area.
They wanted to assure them that Jim Carlson's recent federal conviction means that old downtown can continue to grow.
"All the investment that was occurring but then clamped down for those two years during the sale of synthetic drugs are now going to pick up where they left off two years ago and continue to grow the downtown," Ross said.
"If you look around this area and look at the amount of investment that's happened, its safe now to say that there's going to be a return on these investments," ShelDon co-owner Mark Fredrickson said.
Ross said that most business owners they talked to said they had already seen a big change in the downtown environment since the shop closed a couple months ago.
