DULUTH - Hundreds of Northland residents stepped out to fight heart disease and stroke at the baseball fields near UMD stadium Saturday.
It is the 17th year the American Heart Association Heart Walk raised funds for research, training, and other activities for cardiovascular disease.
“Everybody knows somebody that’s affected by cardiovascular disease. It might be a friend, it might be a family member, it can be a co-worker, it’s everywhere, and people care about that, and that’s why they’re here,” Stephen Schaner, the event chair, said.
There was no cost to participate in the one or 3-mile course, but donations were encouraged.
The Heart Walk is sponsored nationally by Subway, and the top local sponsors were SuperOne and Essentia Health.
