DULUTH - Essentia Health and Kohl's teamed up to keep kids safe Thursday.
They distributed more than 1,500 free life jackets at Kohl's on Miller Hill.
Organizers say the message is for parents to pay attention to their kids when they're swimming.
"Most kids who drown don't have a life jacket on and they are also in the presence of adults. But adults we get distracted. We're reading a book or talking on the phone, running inside, and that's when kids drown," said Jenn Hoff, injury prevention coordinator with Essentia Health.
The groups got $46,000 to buy the life jackets this year from the organization "Kohl's Cares for Kids."
