SUPERIOR - Superior Fire officials are saying that one person is dead after a fire in Billings Park Monday morning. Crews were called to the scene around 11:10 a.m. at 53 Billings Drive after getting a report of flames and smoke coming from the house.
The first arriving company reported flames showing, smoke also showing at eaves.
A second arriving company repored lower level of the structure is fully involved, initiating standard attack.
When the Battalion Chief arrived on scene, he observed heavy brown smoke from the eaves, flames also still showing on side "A".
He also saw plainly that the fire had been burning unnoticed for quite some time previous to being discovered and reported.
Crews made numerous attempts at searches and interior fire attacks, repeatedly turned back by fire and heat.
By the afternoon firefighters had the fire essentially extinguished.
Investigators and fire crews remain on scene.
They say the woman's family is being notified before they release her identity.
