DULUTH - The first day of spring means another day closer to shipping season.
Locals packed into the maritime museum in Canal Park Thursday for the Port Authority’s annual blessing of the port.
It's to honor the hardworking mariners going back to work for the season.
"This community loves it's port, it loves it's seaway, it loves it's ships,” said the executive director of the Seaway Port Authority, Vanta Coda. “The minute you come over the hill you can see why."
The start of shipping season is weather dependent, but the Port Authority is optimistic about the upcoming summer.
