DULUTH - There are heavy hearts on the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus as students mourn the loss of Mandy Matula.
A hiker found her body over the weekend in Sartell, Minn.
On campus, students showed their support through purple bracelets with Matula's name on them.
She was a pitcher for the softball team.
Her teammates gathered Sunday night to share memories and pay respects to their fellow player.
“The girls are sisters to each other and our immediate reaction was to be together with our bulldog family and to be with the Matula family,” said UMD head softball coach, Jen Banford.
Authorities believe Matula was shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend who later killed himself at a police department parking lot.
