SUPERIOR - A local university is taking efforts to reduce its carbon footprint a little further.
The University of Wisconsin-Superior just purchased four 100 percent electric mini hummers in an effort to eliminate gas powered vehicles and save the university money on fuel.
Instead of running on gas, the cars are recharged at any standard electric outlet.
"They’re very versatile, they're easy to get around on the sidewalks for deliveries they can haul passengers they can haul cargo,” said Tom Fennessey with UWS. “We can add more attachments to it so they're just a really versatile and economical way to go."
The vehicles are also equipped to travel on city streets.
