DULUTH - One of the worst days for college move–in weekend is over for police.
Duluth Police say Thursday and Saturday are usually the rowdiest days when students head back to campus.
They say only six citations were issued Thursday before 6 p.m.
They say they gave few tickets this time around compared to the last two years.
The largest amount of calls police receive are alcohol related, but it's not the incoming freshmen that are causing a disturbance.
“The first week is a lot of the kids finding their way around town and planting their feet so to speak,” Sgt. Tim LeGarde of UMD Police said. “From what I understand, it was a pretty uneventful night. We had a couple of contacts regarding alcohol, but nothing major.”
Legarde says campus is highly patrolled not only by the police, but also by hall advisors and dorm security.
He expects this group of students to be no different than any other freshmen class.
