Duluth National Snocross wraps up
DULUTH - For the 18th year, thousands of snocross fans flocked to Spirit Mountain to see the pros battle it out on the hill. It's three days of freestyle and adrenaline fueled racing and it all wrapped up Sunday.
It’s highflying snocross action at the AMSOIL Duluth National, the 1st race in the championship series. "Fabulous races, everybody is having a good time," said Gene Shaw with Visit Duluth. "Oh, the competition and the racers, it's exciting," said a spectator.
One spectator traveled from Mukwonago, Wisconsin to cheer on her son Justin Broberg who took 2nd in the Semi-Pro Final. "It’s a little cold but it's always exciting, it's a huge adrenaline rush." "It’s kind of neat seeing the guys get big air," said Aaron Bevington of Duluth.
The adrenaline packed weekend wrapped up late Sunday afternoon as the top racers in the world competed for a spot on the podium. 20 pros raced 22 laps in the Pro Open Final and the competition was fierce. "It’s the first time that we've had 20 in the final; it makes it a lot more exciting," said Shaw.
"The competition is super stiff, we got some new guys bumped up from the semi–pro and we've got the guys that have been in the pro class for awhile that are at top level and it's hard," said pro racer Levi LaVallee. "If you make it up on the podium, it's a good day, good weekend for you so I’m super excited for the team and myself and all the people that helped me out." LaVallee took 3rd in the Pro Open Final.
"The fans are outstanding, that's what keeps me going out there, you know, to come in and have them cheering and stuff for you, that's the best feeling on earth," said LaVallee. "I just always liked Levi and I like him because he does crazy stuff like the tricks that he does, the double back flip," said Jordan Wolfe of Montreal, Canada.
Tucker Hibbert took 1st in the Pro Open Final. "I feel good, we had a really good weekend and just couldn't be any happier really, 2 wins and we are out of here safe so that's all that matters," said Tucker Hibbert. "It was nice to see everybody out enjoying snowmobiling again and hopefully we get some more snow soon and everybody can get out and ride themselves," said Hibbert.
